Zum Begriff "Weblog"

Jim McGee meint:

There seems to be a consensus that 'weblog' and 'blog' are ugly terms. Many worry that this ugliness adds an element of additional challenge to realizing the value of weblogs within organizations.

Im Socialtext-Workspace gibt es dazu einen Knoten Renaming K-Logs (Registrierung nötig).

Ist "Weblog" wirklich ein hässliches Wort? Klar ist, dass es nicht besonders sexy ist und man ständig in Misverständnisse läuft: "Web" führt zu "WWW" und lässt Manager an wildes Herumsurfen und in die Welt hinausgebloggte Geschäftsgeheimnisse denken. Von Technikern wird "Weblog" als "Webserver-Logfile" misverstanden (was zu lustigen Situationen führt, wenn man es im Gespräch erst nach 2, 3 Minuten merkt). Aber gibt es ein besseres Wort? Brauchen wir eins?

Interessant ist auch dieser Gedanke, den McGee äußert, nachdem er über Dezentralisierung und Verteilung geschrieben hat:

Given the match between weblogs and this broader trend toward decentralized and distributed solutions, the lameness of 'blog' as a term might actually be one of its primary strengths.

Womöglich hat er recht?
